At Dell, we know teachers are critical to help personalize the learning experience for each of their students. As school begins for the new year, we asked students to tell us about their teachers who have made a difference in their lives by submitting an essay into the Dell Outlet Teacher Appreciation Contest. While all the submissions were inspiring and brought back memories of all of our own favorite teachers, there were a few teachers who were especially impressive.
Barbara Boatwright, a journalism and yearbook teacher, was recognized as one who she goes way beyond the subject matter in her counsel to students. She not only teaches her students the art of photography and writing, but she uses those lessons to apply to life and personal growth. The student nominating Ms. Boatwright explained that her teacher helps students to pay attention to detail and appreciate moments as they happen to gain insight, and translate that through a camera or words.
Wilson High School’s Chris Bartlo is also an example to follow. He started the first computer science course at the high school to spark students’ interest in technology. His student wrote that he showed him how computers are more than just entertainment, and that they can be combined with math to develop an entire new language and, ultimately, a career. After taking Mr. Bartlo’s computer science classes as a junior and senior, the student now aspires to be a computer scientist. Under the leadership of Mr. Bartlo, the computer department at Wilson High School has grown from ten students to hundreds.
Another teacher helping to advance learning is Mrs. Regier at John B. Connally High School. Thanks to her dedication and mentorship, her student was able to excel in advanced quantum reasoning class. Mrs. Regier did more than just teach the curriculum, she also supported her student’s entire academic career and college application process. The student attributes Mrs. Regier for her acceptance to the University of North Texas, an accomplishment she did not think possible without the guidance of Mrs. Regier.
These three teachers are representatives of the amazing educators we work with every day and around the world. To recognize their commitment to students and learning, Dell has awarded them, along with 16 other amazing teachers, with an XPS 10 Tablet.
